Student services and support

Emerald State High School has many services and support staff to offer to parents and students. To make accessing these services as simple as possible we have located them  in 'Support Worx' in the A block at the front of the school. 

Guidance Officer

The school's Guidance Officer is available seven days a week to assist students with some of the following.
  •  Subject selection, learning styles and study skills.
  •  Career assistance including jobs, careers and scholarships.
  • Psychometric assessment.
  • Counselling.
  • Mental Health issues, referrals and plans.
  Appointments can be made with the Guidance Office via the office on 4988 2222.

Chaplaincy Program

A School Chaplain is a safe person for young people to connect with at school and provides a listening ear, caring presence, and a message of hope.  Chaplains run positive, fun activities for students and assist in fostering supportive, caring school communities.
The school currently has 2 Chaplains servicing our school who are available Monday to Thursday. Student can access the Chaplain by visiting them at Support Worx without an appointment. 

Youth Support Coordinator

At Emerald State High our Youth Support Coordinator, works closely with senior secondary students to support their transition into and through their senior phase of learning. The Coordinator works with students in Years 10 to 12 who are at risk of disengaging, or have already disengaged from education, to remain engaged with their education to enhance their future opportunities.
Some of the support services provided by the Youth Support Coordinator are:
  • rreferring at risk students to appropriate agencies and support services that will assist students to overcome barriers to education and training;
  • provide individual support, case management and, where appropriate, group support to students
 Our Youth Support Coordinator is available on Monday, Wednesday & Friday.

School Based Health Nurse

The School Based youth Health Nurse meets with young people in private to talk about health concerns, relationships, sexual health, personal or family issues, smoking, alcohol and drug use. She can also:
  • Address concerns or problems about health and wellbeing.
  • Help create a more supportive, healthy school environment. 
  • Connect people to other support services outside the school.

The Nurse is available on Tuesday's, Wednesday & Thursday. Come to Support Worx for a walk in visit or to make an appointment.

School Based Apprentice & Traineeship Coordinator

We acknowledge the importance of Trade pathways and that university and university Study is not for everyone. As such we have a full time support member who help students seeking trade pathways apply for and access school based apprentice and traineeships (SATS). Our SATS coordinator is happy to help students in year 10 - 12 find out more about available opportunities and information about apprentices and traineeships. Our SATS coordinator is a available Monday to Friday in Support Worx.
