Emerald State High School Resource Centre plays an integral part in teaching and learning processes in the school. Students, either individually or in classes have access to the wide range of resources in the collection consisting of:
-
print material including books, periodicals, and other items,
-
audio-visual material including videos Audio cassettes, DVDs, and
-
electronic media - including CD-ROM network.
Students also have access to the internet, both through the library and through the school's computer rooms.
The Library uses an automated cataloguing and circulation system which greatly simplifies the process of finding, borrowing and returning resources. By locating and using library resources, students are able to refine some of the skills essential for further study as well as for living in the world of the new millinium.
In conjunction with school courses, students can access the library collection and services to further develop knowledge and information processing skills related to each subject area. Students can continue class work at their own pace outside of their normal class time. Students can also select information from a wide collection of general recreational reading materials held in the library.
During school hours, students will normally access its resources when the teacher arranges for a period to be spent in the library researching one or more specific topics. This is normally done under the direction of the teacher, possibly with the assistance of the Library Staff.
